Ovulation and ovulation charts

Ovulation is the term given to the release of the egg (ovum) from the nest of cells in the ovary known as the follicle. The conditions present at the time of ovulation are critical to the normal development and fertilization of an egg. Ovulation needs to occur within a small body temperature range, which is lower than usual body temperature. It also needs to take place when cellular conditions such as pH (acidity levels), oxygen and nutrition are all optimal. Ovulation usually occurs on about day 13 of a normal menstrual cycle and is often accompanied by a sharp pain. A fertile woman will usually be very aware of her increased mucus and sexuality at this stage of the cycle.

Ovulation charts can help women work out whether there cycle is normal. Click through to our free ovulation resources is you need some assistance to monitor your ovulation.

Is there a lifestyle cause of abnormal ovulation?

Yes. This can result from ageing but frequently occurs in younger women where the woman's body is suffering from a serious biological and/or hormonal imbalance. Hormonal imbalances usually result from poor or unbalanced nutrition. Most can be overcome by correcting diet and other negative lifestyle habits. It is really exciting to observe how the ovulation chart changes with simple (and appropriate) changes in lifestyle.
