Trisomy
Trisomy refers to the state where a cell has an extra copy of any one chromosome. In human genetics the chromosomes are referred to by the numbers 1 -22 and the sex chromosomes X and Y. Whereas a normal cell would have the karyotype 46,XX, trisomy 21 - for example- has the karyotype 47,XX,+21. In most cases, the trisomic condition is lethal and most trisomies are only found as blighted ova or miscarriages.
Is there a lifestyle cause?
Chromosomal trisomy is caused by an error in cell division that leads to one of the daughter cells having and extra chromosome and one missing a chromosome. Misdivision itself can occur spontaneously but is generally influenced by cellular physiology. Errors in division frequently result from ageing but also occur in younger women where the woman's body is suffering from a serious biological and/or hormonal imbalance. Hormonal imbalances usually result from poor or unbalanced nutrition. Most can be overcome by correcting diet and other negative lifestyle habits.
